SUE KIDD SHIPE, Executive Director and Founder of the International Institute For Human Empowerment, Inc., has a Ph.D. in Education; New York State certification as School District Administrator; Master of Science in Music Education; and Bachelor of Music in Piano.
After teaching, and serving as a public school administrator, Dr. Shipe began serving in education at the State level in 1990. In 2000, she left the State Education Department to work as Executive Director of the International Institute For Human Empowerment, Inc.
Dr. Shipe published a book entitled United We Stand, Reflections on a True Democracy, and Love Rekindled, an audiotape of her poetry and prose. Her dissertation, A Collaboratively Designed Framework for School and Community Leadership Fostering Healthy Development and Lifelong Learning, is a study of the process and positive results of one school district that dramatically improved school attendance and increased the number of students going on to college over time. This dissertation provides a framework for action for any school district honestly seeking to improve student outcomes. You can order a copy of this report for use in your school or district.
As a Level 3 Melvin Jones recipient, Dr. Shipe is active in Lions Club, and currently serves the Lions 20 Y-2 District as Chairman of Lions Youth Outreach, and Chairman of Lions Services for Children. Dr. Shipe is the recipient of an award by the Capital District Association of Women Administrators for her work as Chair of the Capital Region Safe Schools Task Force. She writes and publishes on the Institute web site on a variety of empowerment topics. She also provides a written and published meditation for the International Peace Meditation held the first Sunday of every month.
Dr. Shipe is available to lead spiritual empowerment retreats for individuals and small groups seeking to increase their effectiveness and improve their sense of fulfillment.
She is the daughter of U. S. District Judge and Mrs. William M. Kidd, both deceased, of Clarksburg, West Virginia. She enjoys traveling, as well as a variety of activities with her children and grandchildren.
