International Institute For Human Empowerment, Inc.
May 2, 2007 -- The International Institute For Human Empowerment, Inc. is sponsoring the First Annual Fibromyalgia Conference on National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, May 12. According to the National Fibromyalgia Association, (www.FMAware.org): Fibromyalgia is a complex chronic pain illness that is estimated to affect approximately 10 million Americans including women, men, and children. Its symptoms include pain that is profound and widespread. For those with severe symptoms, FM can be extremely debilitating and interfere with routine daily activities…Other symptoms include fatigue and sleep problems, as well as "brain fog"…Other common complaints include irritable bowel, headaches and migraines, chemical or environmental sensitivities, restless legs, and neurological symptoms such as dizziness, visual problems, numbness, tingling, or impaired coordination. Since currently there is no cure, treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and improving function. It is important for the person with FM to develop an individualized self-management program to ensure a team approach to better health. The free conference, to be held at Price Chopper Community Room on Eastern Parkway in Schenectady, New York, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. features physicians, therapists, a psychologist, and a social security disability attorney. Conference details and directions can be found at the Institute website at www.humanempowerment.org. Parking is available in the Price Chopper grocery store parking lot. According to Sue Shipe, Executive Director, "The goal of the conference is to educate the public about some of the treatment options available in order to empower patients and caregivers with strategies and hope for dealing with this as yet incurable and often disabling illness."
